My practice as a visual artist is focused on creating bridges - physical or symbolic - between individuals and / or communities; that have different cultures and geographic spaces. My work has transversal axes as: marginality, exclusion and invisibility. These are related to deep issues such as: migration, racism and particularly the historical memory associated with the internal armed conflict in Peru (1980 - 2000), which I have been developing for two years, creating a Memory Space with a specific community.

Formally, my work is in macro or micro scale; and for specific sites. My practice can be individual as well as collective. I believe in co-creation processes, as an individual, I am part of the collective artist group FIBRA ( www.fibracolectivo.com ) and as part of the community, we made a Memory Space with the people of Hualla in Ayacucho, Peru; and with nature, a project with Ostra mushrooms – bio materials.

CHIMPAPAMPA MEMORY SPACE
Chimpapampa Memory Space Intervention
Hualla, Victor Fajardo , Ayacucho , Peru
2019

Espacio de Memoria Chimpampa, is one of symbolic reparation, to the more than 220 victims caused by the period of political violence, between the years 1980 and 2000. This project was carried out in the community of Hualla, in the province of Víctor Fajardo, Ayacucho , Peru.

This built with the Association of Victims of Conflict of the Hualla community. For this, tools and strategies of the plastic and visual arts were used to design and build the space that is located in the former military base, Chimpapampa. This process involved periodic meetings with the Association of Victims of Hualla, for which workshops, communal works were designed, collaborated in activating the place before beginning its construction, we placed a cross in space for the commemoration of a massacre carried out by the Peruvian Communist Party -Light Path.

We worked directly with the members of the Hualla Association of the Internal Armed Conflict in the design of the place, for this a basic Kit was prepared that consisted of different geometric shapes, on paper, of different sizes and colors, adhesive tape, scissors and papers. This allowed them to design their memory space taking as a priority the elements that were important and that should be present in the place, not focusing on detail but on the whole.

All these activities allowed different agents to get involved and contribute to the design of the memory space. The constituent elements that I found were: the names of those affected, cross and plants. My job was to condense all this information and the result is the “Chimpapama Memory Space” which is a 16 m diameter circular plaza, bounded by a 60 cm high stone wall and on top of small black flagstones with the names of the 200 dead and missing persons. In the background a wooden cross 4 meters high. All the materials belong to the area (Laja stone, stone, alabaster, etc.) and the square was inaugurated on June 16, 2019.

The body of the visual essay is built based on my personal record and is developed based on groups of photographs which I organized according to themes where you can see the chronology of the work done in the community.
